Rita Behre

Rita Behre was a beloved member of the community and resident at VillageCare at 46 and Ten.  Ms. Behre was an active resident and served on the resident council of 46 and Ten.

Rita will be affectionately remembered by residents and staff for her many talents.  In particular, one of the first things you would notice about her was her outfits - always perfectly color-coordinated, with matching jewelry, starting from socks and shoes and finishing with mild lipstick. She loved to be busy and always had something to do such as cleaning, laundry, light sewing, reorganizing clothes based on the season, writing greeting cards for family and friends, decorating her apartment, just to name a few.

Ms. Behre always kept up to date on current events and enjoyed discussing her thoughts with fellow residents and friends.  She was very social, and her hobbies included music and art. She was a constant presence at all music-related programs such as sing-a-longs, music appreciation, name that tune or Singo, live entertainment, art therapy and Karaoke.

In addition, she enjoyed writing. She was thrilled to be a member of the 46 and Ten Waterfront Writers.  Rita was the heart of the "golden girls" circle of friends and was very friendly with both staff and other residents.  She would always acknowledge the work done by the staff by writing about them on our Staff Appreciation Cards. One of her favorite written acknowledgements was, “Very Helpful.”

Religion was extremely important to Rita, as she would receive holy communion on a weekly basis.

Her time spent with her family was a priority to her.  She enjoyed going out to lunch and visiting museums with her son John and loved to tell stories of her children and grandchildren to anyone that would listen.

The VillageCare and 46 and Ten community will miss her smile, humor, singing, writing and colorful outfits.

The Rita Behre Memorial Fund was established in Rita's memory to help support ongoing activities for residents of VillageCare at 46 and Ten.
